Reviewing fire risk assessments in Devon and Cornwall

Reviewing a fire risk assessment is a critical element in fire safety management and should be done regularly or when there is a significant change in the building.

What a proper review helps you do

Keeps the report current

We review the document against the premises as it is now, not as it was.

Identifies new issues

Business changes or building defects can be identified and fresh actions created.

Flags new risks early

Changes in layout, staffing or process can be picked up before they are missed.

Keep the assessment matched to the premises

A fire risk assessment only helps if it still matches the premises and the way people use it. When layouts change, staffing shifts, new equipment arrives or remedial work has been completed, an old document may no longer give you the right picture. We review the existing assessment against current site conditions, current occupancy and the fire precautions now in place. With Fire Skills Ltd, you can check whether earlier findings still stand, where actions have been completed and where new or altered risks now need attention.

Review change instead of treating the record as fixed

This service is useful when you do not want to start from scratch but you do need confidence that the assessment remains fit for purpose. We look at previous findings, existing action plans and the present use of the premises, then update priorities, so your fire safety management stays active rather than static. Through Fire Skills Ltd, you get a clearer record of what has improved, what still needs work and what has changed since the last assessment.

Frequently asked questions

When should an assessment be reviewed?

A Fire Risk Assessment should be reviewed regularly or when there has been a significant change. Regularly is generally accepted as annually. A significant change could be a physical issue such as building alterations but may also be because of staffing changes or an issue with an individual staff member.

Do you need our existing documents first?

Existing assessments, action plans and related records are very helpful because they show the basis of earlier findings and what was meant to happen next. We then compare those records with the site as it stands now and update the position accordingly.

Does a review always replace the whole assessment?

No. The template used by Fire Skills Ltd amends and adds to the initial Fire Risk Assessment produced. This then allows a complete history to be followed. So it illustrates show previously identified actions that have been completed, but also actions that are still outstanding, either from previous assessments or fresh items that have just been identified.
